The bigEE country pages for India provide latest and authoritative information on the technological and policy framework scenario for energy efficiency in buildings and appliances in the country.

In order to understand India’s circumstances in the energy consumption in buildings sector, bigEE provides up-to-date information on building sector, description of climate zones of India, and information about the main involved actors.

In the buildings section, key information on the electrical energy consumption patterns in India and a break down of consumption in different Indian building sub sectors is provided. A strategic approach has been laid out to aid the transition to Ultra-Low-Energy Buildings. The information has been supplemented by design recommendations for energy-efficient buildings and good practice green and Low-Energy-Building examples.

Building energy related policy framework in the country is available in the policy section, and is in continuous development. A detailed account of the current policy package can be found here along with detailed information on various implemented policies and measures in the direction of reducing energy consumption in buildings and appliances. For example, please refer to the popular and most successful energy-efficient lighting programme in the country Domestic Efficient Lighting Programme (DELP).

The appliances section provides latest information on the current and future most energy-efficient appliances. Data on appliance subtypes and markets, energy efficiency range, and user energy savings and cost savings, performance and information requirements, and test procedure can be found for each of the individual appliances. For example, find detailed information on energy-efficient air conditioners and energy-efficient refrigerators available in India with more technology and appliance groups to be added shortly.
