Space Heating  »  Unitary heat supply systems

Introduction

This section contains description and a comparison of the currently available technologies and fuels for both, the fossil and renewable area in individual/unitary heat supply. It should be noted that some technologies can in principle be used with various fuels (multi-fuel capability, e.g. Stirling engine), other systems, are tailored to a particular fuel (e.g. pellet boilers). In the following figure the technologies and fuels considered are demonstrated for uncoupled heating systems („Heat“) and for coupled heating systems (Combined Heat and Power, „CHP“). Only those commercially available technologies or technologies will be considered, which are on the threshold of market introduction. For all technologies the specific application areas and the specific strengths and weaknesses are outlined.
